Castel Thun

To relive the magic of Trentino’s castles, we propose a pleasant excursion with a visit to Castel Thun, the ancient manor nestled in the gentle Trentino landscape of the Non Valley. The itinerary crosses the Val di Non and its luxuriant apple orchards, until it reaches the imposing manor house. The route is uphill but passes on roads with little traffic.

From the Hotel al Sole continue along via Rotaliana towards Mezzocorona and immediately after the bridge turn left onto provincial road 29, a picturesque road immersed in nature, which will take you to the locality of Rocchetta, where there is a large crossroads, an obligatory point for access into Val di Non. Cross the crossroads and turn left, following the signs for Vigo di Ton.

Continue along the provincial road and, at Castelletto, turn right towards Masi di Vigo and from here continue along the scenic road until you reach the village of Vigo di Ton.

Go through the centre of the village and take via S. Vigilio to the right, then turn immediately left into via al Doss. At the end of the street turn right, and shortly afterwards you will reach the driveway of the majestic Thun Castle.

For the return journey, go as far as the crossroads with via al Doss, but instead of turning left and returning along the same road as the outward journey, continue straight ahead along the picturesque little road through the countryside, which will take you as far as the crossroads with provincial road 203.

Take the provincial road to the left and descend down the valley to the locality of Rocchetta, where you can rejoin provincial road 29 and from here return along the same road as before.
