The Favogna ferrata

Path nos. 507 and 502

Difference in altitude m. 900

Time required: ascent 4.30 hours – descent 2 hours

Climbing between chimneys, gullies and natural ledges along the overhanging limestone wall that culminates in the enchanting and bucolic Altipiano di Favogna: the magic of the vertical.

Between Roverè della Luna and Magré, along the Strada del Vino e dei Sapori della Piana Rotaliana, is the start of the steep path (no. 507) leading to the Favogna ferrata.

After a short ascent through the forest, you reach the start of the ferrata. The itinerary continues alternating between steep sections equipped with ropes, vertical ladders, stirrups and steep paths through the bush until the last and most spectacular rocky drop, after which it is possible to admire the beautiful panorama of the vast expanses of vineyards in the Adige Valley… an adrenalin-fuelled, breathless and emotionally charged “stretch”!

All the effort is rewarded on arrival: leaving the Putzwald forest, in an idyllic spot on a rise, is the little church of Favogna di Sotto. Redwoods and giant trees surround the typical farmsteads, the pond and the green meadows, making the landscape unique.

To return from Favogna, follow the asphalted road, then path no. 502, in the direction of Roverè della Luna, which leads through the beautiful Molini Valley back to the starting point.

The many exposed sections, the considerable height difference of around 900 metres and the vertical walls make this route only suitable for experts. In addition to the via ferrata equipment (harness, carabiners, helmet), good training and an absolute absence of vertigo are required.
